Forever Interrupted

ForeverInterrupted

Forever Interrupted is deep in its emotional content. The character of Elsie explores the emotions of love, happiness, marriage, bereavement, connectivity and healing , all in a span of one year. Unexpectedly, on the eve of new year, Elsie bumps into the charming Ben, and then begins a whirlwind romance between the two, but this happiness is short lived as she turns into a widow just after nine days into marriage. If this is not all, then, she has to face her mother in law Susan too, whom she has never met before. How the mother in law and the daughter in law pair bond with each other in grief and start a process of healing forms the rest of the story.
From her two novels that I read ( Maybe In Another Life and Forever Interrupted), I think Taylor has a pattern of interweaving the sub-stories. In this novel, the romance between Elsie and Ben is inter weaved with Elsie and Susan’s healing process after the death of Ben, the common man in both of their lives. This pattern of story telling (with interweaving) keeps the reader hooked to the book, wanting to know more and more of both the sub-stories. Another interesting fact about Taylor is that her story writing apart from being crisp and clear, has its own moments which are high on emotion. Here is one such example :
“Have you ever heard of supernovas? They shine brighter than anything else in the sky and then fade out really quickly, a short burst of extraordinary energy. I like to think you and Ben were like that…. in that short time, you had more passion than some people have in a lifetime ”
This comparison of romance to the supernova in the sky is so apt for the story, and certainly lines like these speak about the immense creative mind of the author. It’s a very good first novel by the author
